Stedman Renovation and Addition

The design stategy on the main house was to open up to each other the living, dining, and kitchen areas and expand both the bathroom and laundry.

A large storefront glass wall opens up the living area to the portal and entry coutryard. In the living room this large glass wall is contrasted with a corner kiva fireplace and vigas to create a lively dialogue between materials and elements of different styles and times.

The addition houses the master suite and den/studio. A fireplace is open to both dining and studio sitting areas. Transition between the old and the new is handled via level changes and soffited ceiling planes. The master suite is quite luxurious given that it now has generous closet and bathroom space and a library.

By creating visual and, in the case of the addition, physical connections between interior and exterior spaces, the exterior spaces, whether as small courtyards, linear gardens, or large courtyards add quality and space to the interor.
